Have you ever sat through a poorly prepared Sunday School lesson and wondered why you were there? Sometimes it's hard to apply what's being said to yourself. Try asking yourself the question, "What does this tell me about Heavenly Father?" and once you've answered that one, ask, "How can I be more like that?"
For example, the lesson is on some of the war chapters in the Book of Mormon. It's easy to wonder why you need to learn about all this killing. But try asking, "What does the fact that the Lord included these chapters tell me about who He is?" Maybe He wants to show you how unhappy wicked people are, and how far away wickedness can lead you. So what does that tell you about Him? He's trying to save you from becoming that way. He wants you to be righteous so you'll be exalted. He wants you to be exalted so He can be with you forever, because HE LOVES YOU THAT MUCH.
Now, that applies, doesn't it?
Then ask, how can I avoid this evil? You'll be able to think of ways to keep yourself clean, like Our Father is clean, because you want to be like Him.
