Everything Is Connected

Have you ever sat through a poorly prepared Sunday School lesson and wondered why you were there? Sometimes it's hard to apply what's being said to yourself. Try asking yourself the question, "What does this tell me about Heavenly Father?" and once you've answered that one, ask, "How can I be more like that?"

For example, the lesson is on some of the war chapters in the Book of Mormon. It's easy to wonder why you need to learn about all this killing. But try asking, "What does the fact that the Lord included these chapters tell me about who He is?" Maybe He wants to show you how unhappy wicked people are, and how far away wickedness can lead you. So what does that tell you about Him? He's trying to save you from becoming that way. He wants you to be righteous so you'll be exalted. He wants you to be exalted so He can be with you forever, because HE LOVES YOU THAT MUCH.
Now, that applies, doesn't it?
Then ask, how can I avoid this evil? You'll be able to think of ways to keep yourself clean, like Our Father is clean, because you want to be like Him.

Lindsay, I love your thoughts! That is so pleasant to think that way! I am really enjoying doing home school subjects this way...it makes everything become inspiring. Isn't that how life is meant to be, anyway! It's funny you should comment about the Book of Mormon wars, and I like the conclusion you came to. I'm just starting those chapters again, and every time I do, I think, Oh, no! I was just being so uplifted! I don't want to lose that feeling of inspiration while I read about the wars! But then every time lately, I really get into it and get excited and inspired. I'm just loving it right now! I mean, are the Nephites going to be safe???? Yikes!! How exciting when Moroni was inspired and they built up all the cities so with super strong walls while Amalackiah was inspiring the Lamanites to hatred against the Nephites. Isn't that the ulitmate kid story? Every time I get to those chapters, I tell my kids about it in a really suspenseful way and they just hang on every word!

Lindsay, this is beautifully written and even more, it speaks to the heart. I am going to do this more than I have. I want to embrace everything God has created, even my trials. When I am impatient, I can ask "How does this experience help me know the Lord better?" Thanks for being my teacher! Love you lots.
